I turned the channel to ESPN as i sat down in the recliner chair in the basement, and was ready for Kansas vs Memphis, which turned out to be a much better game then i thought, well in the first half that is, Memphis did a great job of attacking the ball which forced 12 turnovers in the first half alone, this as well as good shooting made for an interesting first half, and if i am not mistaken i said that they would need to force turnovers and get a bog game in the paint to win. I was somewhat right, the reason i say a big game in the paint is cause to me Kansas lacks that tough big man inside, yes they have big men who can stretch the floor but a true post they do not have, or so it would seem from the past couple games i have watched them. I started to think as the first half ended if Memphis can keep this up they might have a shot at winning this thing. But i also remember that it is Kansas and that Memphis is a young team and they were only in the game due to the Jayhawks miscues so i figured the Jayhawks would come out strong in the second half and sure enough they came out of the half with an 11-4 run and they were much better against the pressure as the turnovers virtually disappeared. Also the Tigers did not shoot nearly as well in the second half, the whole game really they shot 37% from the field vs. the Jayhawks 57%, its hard to win a game when that number is that lopsided. I also said that the Morris brothers would have a great game, i know they usually have a great game but last night they went for a combine 30 points 3 blocks 3 steals 7 dimes and 15 boards, pretty impressive. Yes i was also impressed with the freshmen on the other end Will Barton who had 16 points 2 steals 2 dimes and 7 rebounds but i wasn't enough, did Memphis impress me last night? maybe a little bit they are young though which can hurt them but they have a lot of talent and i would expect them only to go up from here. The second game of the night was supposed to be the "good" game i really felt that Syracuse had yet to play any real talent and that Michigan State would be a big challenge for them...Boy was i wrong, like i said in yesterdays blog i really do like the Orange but i just thought they were not as good as MSU at this point in the year, i really didn't think they had been tested and i thought Michigan State coming off that loss to Duke would have something to prove. Once again i guess i was wrong, you could tell right away that it was gunna be one of those nights for the Spartans it seemed none of their starters could buy a bucket, I think that they needed to Green the ball a little more he had a decent night 11 rebounds 5 dimes 3 steals but only 6 points, he only took 6 shots for that matter, but what really killed the Spartans last night was they are a team that while being experienced and can drive the ball they like to shoot the 3 they rely a lot on the 3 point shot, not saying they cant drive the ball or that they don't have a big post player cause they do, but it seemed like they werent comfortable driving last night or something cause they were taking jumpers left and right, and being a team that relies on the 3 point shot you can not shoot 29% from beyond the arc i mean there is no way you will win the game that way. Not to mention 38% FG shooting as well. They look horrible last night for most of the game there were spurts there where they would make a come back, like the three point play some what through the 2nd half when dicky v shouted SPARTYS BAAACKK SPARTYS BAAACK haha it was classic dicky v and it made me laugh but still they got worked by the orange in every way possible out rebounded out scored obviously, just flat out, out played from the looks of it. I felt bad i really do think that MSU has all the talent they need this year to cut down the net but if they continue to play like this i dont see it happening, i mean right now i think Illinois is a team to watch for more so then MSU. Shout out to the Mav's for winning 10 straight, and shout out to the Lakers for grabbing a W.
I know that if you know me you know i love baseball and, if you have been watching sportscenter or any sports news for that matter you know that there have been a lot free agents being signed and i do want to write on that but i want to wait till Cliff Lee signs (hopefully with the Rangers!!) to really get into the whole free agent off season thing. later tonight i might talk a little about some of the huge contracts that have gone down the past couple weeks as well as my BOWL BLOG, i know i have been talking about it for a while well tonight i will write it, its just there are so many bowl games and so many interesting match ups that it might be like a million pages long haha well hope you come back tonight and read it.
